Starting this summer, Black Mountain Press will have a gumball machine on-site that dispenses short-form poetry from writers all over the world! Please include no more than two poems per submission, up to 5-lines each (think: haiku, limerick, tanka, cinquain, etc).

Black Mountain Press is a literary press for outstanding emerging writers publishing several different genres of books annually. For the next ten years from 2018 through the end of 2028 our focus will be in collections of poetry, memoir, novels and collections of short stories. Our editors are looking for the highest quality literary fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry that combines a distinct voice and vision.

Submit complete manuscripts, double spaced for Novel, Poetry Books, Creative Non-Fiction, Memoirs, or other creative literary writing. 

All submissions must be completed manuscripts and at least 64 pages. 

Reading Period: We will accept submissions through December 2028. 

Submission Procedure: We accept manuscripts through Submittable only. Fee for submission through Submittable is $10. Submit complete manuscripts, double spaced for Novel, Poetry Books, Creative Non-Fiction, Memoirs, or other creative literary writing. 

All submissions must be completed manuscripts, at least 64 pages, double spaced with a 12pt font, along with a cover letter containing contact information, and relevant biographical information.

We do not accept query letters, sample chapters, or proposals to the editors. We also do not publish stand-alone poems or stories, except in our literary magazines, HerWords & JanusWords. We do not publish romance, science fiction, thrillers, detective fiction, horror stories, westerns, unless written in a unique, literary, never seen before, style. How-to guides will continue to be accepted on a limited basis.

Response Time: We have a small editorial staff, and we respond to submissions within six to ten months. Because of the volume of submissions, we simply cannot take phone calls or respond to emails inquiring about the status of manuscripts. If you haven’t heard from us in six months, please send an email.

Tips: Black Mountain Press is happy to receive unsolicited manuscripts from authors previously published or not. We just ask you to read the guidelines and submit work that fits our needs.

Her Words is a collection of poetry and by and for women. The collection provides a feminine touch on the literary world and gives women the opportunity to receive recognition for who they are and for the words they have written.

Janus is the ancient Roman god of doorways, transitions, endings, and duality. Often depicted with two mythical faces, they are said to appear in moments of great change to preside over the struggle between war and peace.

JanusWords is a quarterly literary magazine featuring the poetry of queer, trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming writers, uplifting the voices of a historically unrepresented group. All who find themselves reflected in the LGBTQIA+ community are encouraged to submit two poems in any style, length or format.

Artists and curators are invited to submit proposals for solo or group exhibitions at the Flood Gallery Fine Arts Center (solo or three artists or more). Current submissions will be considered for the 2023 calendar. Note: Due to the volume of exhibition proposal submissions, we are unable to send any form of response or feedback. No hard copy submissions are accepted.

Artists will be accepted for exhibition in the 1000 sq. foot main gallery at the Flood Gallery Fine Arts Center. Total number of works displayed should be no more that 30 at a max. size of 4ftX7ft. vertical or 7ftX7ft square.  All work must be completed and framed at the time of submission. Any medium is accepted that is framed and is ready to be attached to the gallery walls. Submission does not imply exhibition in the gallery. Submitters agree that art could be used in the Halcyone Literary magazine.
